As I was digging through my trim drawer, I stumbled upon a spool of wide trim ribbon that I had purchased some time ago.  I can remember having big plans for it, but after getting it home, as with a number of things, it too found its way into my "I'll get to you one day" pile and was temporarily lost until recently. I am now in the process of actually making a doll outfit from it.  It is a feel and go kind of thing, but once I am done I will be back to post what became of this beautiful trim.  In the meantime, take a look at it and formulate a vision of what type of doll outfit you would make, and then you can compare it to my creation later to see just how similar or different your vision was in comparison to mine. Barbie Doll Comfortable Jumpsuit Wear - Cream, Tan, and Gold-toned chains

This cream colored, handmade, jumpsuit was inspired by the need to create a comfortable wear Barbie doll outfit for an office setting diorama.  I envisioned something light-colored, soft, flexible, and easy to put on and take off.  I was able to find some durable, stretch knit material among my stash of fabric and away I went at creating this modern, classic, stylish outfit that looks great on Barbie.  In this office setting, I decided that Barbie would be an accomplished music producer.  So, I set about creating the gold record plaques by gluing gold, circular, medallions taken from extra large, dollar store earrings onto a graphic that looked like a music award wall plaque, which gave it a bit of depth and character.  I created an over-sized magazine cover poster to put on the wall by taking a picture of Barbie holding a guitar and adding headline captions all around it.  All in all I enjoyed making this fabulous outfit and creating the surrounding setting that made it come alive!  Thanks for viewing the pictures! Handmade Red and White Barbie Doll Jogging Outfit with White Tennis Shoes

Handmade Barbie Doll Clothing ES Glam 2013 Fashion Award Winners Photo Collage

Handmade Barbie doll, easy slip on, slip off, tube dresses were so much fun to create and design.  Since my goal was to create a number of these easy to make fashions, I wanted to do a photo backdrop that I could easily use multiple times to photograph each dress.  So, I came up with a red carpet, fashion award event theme.  I really had a blast making the scenery, and it came out way better than I originally thought.  I know the repetitive, paparazzi photographers in the background look a little bit weird, however, I needed something quick and easy just to create an illusion for the imagination to run with :-).  I think the hardest thing concerning this project was getting the poles to stay upright.  I created them in an awful hurry using a round piece of wood painted black as my base, a gold button with a center hole, small diameter wooden dowels that would fit inside the button hole, and gold duct tape to wrap around the wooden dowels to give them a shiny gold exterior.  Once the poles were securely glued and stable, I then cut several equal measures of chain length, and added a jump ring to each end of chain.  I placed jewelry necklace end caps on top of the wooden dowel, placed the jump ring on top of it, then pushed a gold thumb tack down in the center of the jewelry cap hole to secure the chains to the poles.  It was a fun photo project that came in handy while showcasing a series of doll dresses belonging to a particular theme.

Red Handmade Barbie Doll Dress With Headband, Bracelet, Purse, and Shoes

Today I worked on setting up photo props for a red dress that has beautiful black and white patch work designs down the front, on the belt, and across the front purse flap.  I am so relieved to finally have this photo shoot completed.  Because the dress sports such a beautiful, cultural print, I had much anxiety as to how to go about having my photos do it justice.  I am not that great of a photographer, and the added dilemma of trying to come up with scenery that would actually mesh well with this dress was quite challenging, fun, and exciting all at the same time.  I know that I could have easily stood it up against a simple background; but for some reason, I get visions in my head of how I need to present items that I create.  The mental visions are wonderful, but sometimes it is tough trying to bring to life what I see in my head with such limited supplies. So it takes me a very long time to pull everything together.

Thankfully, once I took bits and pieces from here and there, my scenery began to come together.  I knew that I wanted to create some kind of throne setting with a staff.  I had seen a really beautiful setting in a Barbie magazine once and loved it.  So, I set out to create my own princess throne photography props.  I took a wicker chair and wrapped the bottom in black feather trim.  Then I took white feather trim and weaved the top portion of the chair.  I chose the top portion to be white because I knew that the black would interfere with her hair.  The cultural looking floor mat was my inspiration for creating a throne setting in the first place.  I loved that it was round and had all the right colors and patterns that would stand out.  Once I seated the doll on her throne, something was missing.  Finally, I remembered the staff.  So, I took a piece of wood about 10 inches long and connected some feathers to the top of it, then I wrapped it in black ribbon and secured it with a straight pin at the back.  The props for the throne photo shoot was finally completed.  At last, it was lights, camera, action time!

After a few photos of the throne scene, I had the desire to create an outdoor scenery setting.  A princess can only sit on her throne for so long before it's time to get out and about.  Thankfully, I had purchased a floor tree from Home Goods several years back.  It is made of real wood, but has artificial greenery.  This served as the center stage for my outdoors scene.  The only thing left to do was add several fake rocks, which are really solar powered lights, that I purchased from the dollar tree to add a bit of depth to my scenery.  The only thing that I wish I had purchased a few days ago was a giraffe that I saw in Hobby Lobby.  I would have posed it near the tree to make it look as though it were grazing on the leaves above.
